The proposed Quality Enhancement Plan at UTB/TSC will focus on improving student success and strengthening learning outcomes in written communication and scientific concepts by linking selected sections of two freshman general education courses with large enrollments: English Composition II (ENGL 1302) and Biology I (BIOL 1306). Through the use of the Blackboard Outcomes Suite, students will use technology to build electronic portfolios of their writing in both courses. These portfolios will be assessed at the end of the semester, and they will accompany students as they continue in their major and later apply for positions in their chosen careers. Over the next five years, faculty in other disciplines will have opportunities to develop additional linked-course offerings for students at our institution.
