Wimba takes quite a lot of memory to run smoothly, so before entering Wimba each evening that you have class, it would be a good idea to restart your computer, particularly if you have not recently done so.  It is also recommended that, after restarting, you turn off all memory intensive applications that you do not need - such as IM, Second Life, Windows Media Player, etc.

Please run the set-up wizard several hours - possibly even several days - before your first class to make sure all is up and running. Do not wait until the last minute or you may end up missing your first class.

Also, be patient. While this is an emerging technology, Wimba does have some glitches that we will have to face. With an open attitude, this should be a great experience for everyone in the class.

Please follow the directions listed below to go through the wizard before the first class meeting.

NOTE: If you have any problems that are not resolved after going through this tutorial, please contact Wimba tech support 24/7 at: 866.350.4978 or send them an email at: technicalsupport@wimba.com They are always very helpful in getting you through snags.

Using the Wimba Wizard in 10 Easy Steps

Step 1:  Going to Wimba-land

Enter your BlackBoard course.

Somewhere in your left menu bar of your BlackBoard course, you will find a button or link that will take you to the Wimba rooms.  It may say Wimba or Horizon Wimba or as below Wimba Live Classroom. Find the button in your BlackBoard course and click on it to take you to the set-up room.

Step 2: Entering lobby

After clicking on the Wimba link, You will then be taken to the live classrooms "lobby area" for your course. This is the location of all the rooms in the course as well as the archives. You will be able to see a list of rooms currently available as well as rooms that have been archived. Click on the little blue up arrow under Enter.  You should click on the Enter button corresponding to the room you have been instructed to enter. In this case, you would click on the "arrow" beside the 1Your Wimba Classroom. Your instructor will let you know the name of the room you will be entering for your class.

You you will be taken to the "prep" room. This is where you run the wizard for the first time. After you have run the wizard, then you can skip this part and go directly to "click here" to enter any room from any course you are taking at the TeleCampus.

Now click on the Run Wizard button.

Step 4: The Wizard at Work

You will be taken to the Setup Wizard, an invisible little man in your machine who will take care of getting your computer ready - much like the Wizard of Oz. However, this wizard  nicely guides you through the tasks needed to use Wimba.

Please click on the Start button as indicated below.

You will notice that the wizard checks of each box when he successfully completes your computers ability to run Wimba. Each step along the way, the wizard will guide you. If the wizard cannot complete a task, he will provide you with instructions on what to do.

Step 6: Testing Audio and Recording

When the wizard gets to audio and recording playback, he (or she - depending on the gender of your computer) will ask you to complete some activities to test that you can hear and you can speak in the Wimba room. Just follow the directions, then when appropriate click on Next.

Do not click on Next before you hear from the wizard. He will make sure you can hear from your headsets before moving you along. After you hear the recorded voice, you can click on Next.

Once audio has been tested, the wizard will test recording. At the wizard's instruction, talk into the microphone to make sure you can hear. Once you hear your voice, you are ready to click Next once again.
