Several years ago, I was awarded an HEB Excellence of Education award partly because of the technology that I started incorporating in my classroom. The reason for my using technology in my classroom was to reinvigorate interest among my students in the content that they are being taught. Through technology, I was able to accomplish this. Through the humor that I infused in my lessons, I was able to reinvigorate the interest that I was seeking from the students. This kind of response from my students became addictive. Now, I have created over 200 individual lessons over 5 different subjects.
I don’t want my experience with technology to end there. I consider myself an innovator in the classroom. I am not afraid to experiment with new tools or ideas. And for this reason, I chose to come back to school and pursue a Master’s degree in Educational Technology. More specifically, I have chosen to pursue an MTT (Master Technology Teacher) degree. With this degree, I hope to implement the newest technologies in my classroom. I hope to become a resource for my fellow educators. I hope to change an overall attitudinal philosophy in our school that is hesitant to accept changes in instruction. This philosophy is preventing our school as a whole to really embrace the latest technological advancements specifically designed for classroom instruction. Until this attitude is changed, our students will suffer from being exposed to the technology of their times. With this degree and more importantly, I hope to continue impacting student lives in an enriching and positive manner.
