Getting Started

To participate in the program, students must apply to and be accepted by UT Brownsville. Students currently pursuing an approved AAS program at another institution should first consult their technical field advisors at their institution if interested in coordinating AAS requirements with UTB's BAT-HST requirements.

When students initially enroll at UTB they will receive a tentative degree plan. Students are encouraged to complete the General Education Core requirements first, however they may take upper level courses before completing the General Education Core. Online general education courses are offered by the UT TeleCampus. Check with the program Advisor prior to registering for any of these courses to ensure they apply toward the program.

When students are ready to start the BAT program, the Advisor will assist in finalizing the appropriate degree plan for the additional academic coursework. Careful selection of courses with the program Advisor is very important.

Non-degree seeking students who wish to take a BAT-HST course without an allied health background may do so but should recognize that these courses are designed for students with an allied health background. BAT-HST courses generally do not have prerequisites that would prevent students from taking the courses for general interest. Please check course prerequisites and contact the program Advisor for assistance in choosing appropriate courses.
